Why Make Cheese at Home?
Control your ingredients – No preservatives or additives.

Satisfying & impressive – A fun culinary project that wows guests!
Ingredients
1 gallon (3.8 liters) whole milk – fresh and not ultra-pasteurized
1/4 cup lemon juice or white vinegar – your acid for curdling
1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
Equipment
Large heavy-bottomed pot
Thermometer (optional, but helpful)
Cheesecloth or clean kitchen towel
Colander
Large bowl
Instructions
Heat the Milk
Pour the milk into a large pot. Slowly heat it over medium heat to 180°F (82°C), stirring occasionally to prevent scorching.
Add the Acid
Turn off the heat. Slowly pour in the lemon juice or vinegar, gently stirring. The milk will separate into curds (white clumps) and whey (yellowish liquid).
Let it Sit
Let the mixture sit undisturbed for 10 minutes to fully curdle.
Strain the Curds
Line a colander with cheesecloth over a large bowl. Carefully pour in the mixture to strain.
Gather the cloth and gently squeeze out excess liquid.
Season and Shape
Transfer curds to a bowl. Add salt to taste and mix gently.
Optional: For a firmer cheese, wrap the curds in cloth and press with a weight for 1–2 hours.
Enjoy!
Your homemade cheese is now ready! Spread on toast, crumble over salads, or use it in recipes.
