Indulge in this quick, flavorful, and ultra-comforting Cheesy Texas Toast! Thick slices of bread are slathered with garlic butter, loaded with melty cheese, and baked until golden and crispy.
Perfect as a side for pasta, soups, or as a tasty snack on its own.
Ingredients
4 slices Texas Toast or thick-cut white bread
½ cup grated cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a blend)
2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
Instructions:
1. Preheat & Prep
Preheat oven to 400°F (205°C).
Arrange bread slices on a baking sheet, leaving a little space between them.
2. Make Garlic Butter
In a small bowl, mix melted butter and minced garlic (if using).
3. Butter & Cheese the Bread
Brush both sides of each bread slice with the garlic butter.
Sprinkle a generous amount of grated cheese on top.
4. Bake Until Golden
Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and the edges are crispy.
5. Serve
Remove from the oven and serve immediately while hot and gooey.
Variations
1. Three-Cheese Blend
Use a combo of mozzarella, cheddar, and Parmesan for rich, layered flavor.
2. Spicy Kick
Add a sprinkle of crushed red pepper flakes or a few dashes of hot sauce to the garlic butter.
3. Herb-Infused
Mix fresh or dried Italian herbs, parsley, oregano, thyme, or basil into the butter before spreading.
4. Bacon Lover’s Version
Top the cheese with crumbled cooked bacon before baking.
5. Tomato Twist
Place a thin slice of tomato under the cheese for a mini Margherita-toast effect.
6. Air Fryer Toast
Instead of the oven, cook in the air fryer at 375°F (190°C) for 5–6 minutes until golden and crispy.
7. Stuffed Toast
Make a cheesy sandwich! Add a slice of cheese between two slices of buttered bread and bake like a grilled cheese.
Tips for Best Results
Use thick bread: Texas Toast or any hearty loaf like sourdough holds up best.
Freshly grate cheese for better melting and flavor (pre-shredded can be drier).
Don’t skip the garlic if you love flavor—it really brings it to life.
Line your baking sheet with foil or parchment for easy cleanup.
For extra crunch, broil the toast for the last 1–2 minutes—just watch closely to avoid burning!
